Choosing to be selfless daily

Part of maturing in Christ is learning to be selfless and not selfish.  The perfect example in Scripture is Jesus.  Matthew 20:28 it says, “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

To be selfless we must deny our flesh of its lustful desires and die daily (1 Corinthians 15:31). Like Jesus we must choose God’s will and not our will.  Matthew 26:42 Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.”

Choosing to decrease and allowing the Holy Spirit to increase in us means we must be determined to remain in the will of God despite daily challenges.  As we die to self and walk in the Word we will find contentment and fulfillment in God’s will for our lives.  Galatians 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
